Week 2 term three

This week was the second week back to term three and it has been really exciting. We once again have switched tech arts and us year 7's have started art while the year 8's have begun sewing. For art everything is revolved around monsters and on Tuesday next week we will get to start our clay monsters. We are doing four small projects, the clay monsters, some pastel art monsters and we have yet to find out what the other two are.

In week one the life education caravan came and on Wednesday week1 we had our first session with Nicky. For life education we are doing out of the shadows or drugs and how they effect the teenage brain. Already we have had our introductory lesson and two other lessons in the caravan. We have learnt that if it's not food, water or oxygen then it's classed as a drug. We also learnt that although coke may not look or seem like a drug it has caffeine in it which if you drink too much of can be harmful.

Next week on Friday we have our annual school gala and my class room3 has been asked to run the stall. I would like to invite anyone who is reading my blog to come to Te Awamutu Intermediate from 5pm to 7pm to come and spend some time down at the gala and support our school.

Last week was so much fun hopefully we can have an even better one next week.

Week 5

This week was our first two lessons of food. Lesson one we learnt how to make banana milkshakes, but just about everyone ended up making chocolate or vanilla. We had to work in teams of three to get milk, ice-cream, or blend the ice-cream and milk to make the milkshake. My team was Sophie J, Liam, and of course me. We made a chocolate vanilla swirl milkshake I got the milk, Sophie got the ice cream, and Liam got to blend it all together. Then on Friday we got to make either mouse traps, pizza snacks, baked apple, or jacket potato. We got to make our own thing in groups of three in each kitchen. I made pizza snacks, Sophie made jacket potato and so did Liam.

In maths we are currently doing algebra and we have learnt about patterns and rules. to write a rule you have to find the difference then that is what you multiply by and then take that number away from the original number in pattern one and if it is a positive number you add it, negative subtract it.

Week 4

This week we had to do speeches so we could find out who went to the team/class finals. I ended up getting into the class finals and have to preform it again on Monday week 5. I think I did really well the first time and deserve to go through to the team finals, but I'll have to wait and see what Monday brings.

Also we had our last lesson of music in tec arts on Friday and next week we start food which I'm super excited for, but then again isn't everyone excited for food. In year seven food, this is only what I've been told, we get to make brownies, pizzas and other things that I do not know. We get to start food on Tuesday week 5 which is next week and I think we get to make brownies first, hopefully we do.

This week has been awesome.

Week 3

This week we had our last two lessons of proper music and next week we have our last to lessons of music as dance. We had our assment done which was where we had to play a piece of music on the piano, play chords on the ukulele, did a paper test, a listening test, and then a volume test. The volume test is where there was this sign... < above the line and that meant they where louder. There was three or four options on the sheet and we had to circle which was the one Mrs. Moat played.

This week I also had my first lesson of Japanese. We learnt how to play a Japanese game called atte muiti hoi! This game is where you do paper, scissors, rock then the winner sticks their finger in the losers face and say atte muiti hoi and points in a direction and the loser has to look the other way. To win you have to get the loser to look in that direction.

Week 2

This week in tec arts we learnt how to make a healthy living rap then we got to record and make a beat to back the rap. First we had to get into teams of two or three, then we had to write our rap, then we could make a backing and record it and then at the end we got to share it with the class. I worked with Sophie Jackson and we made this rap: don't eat cake, cause apples are great; don't have coke, because the waters broke; don't have sweets, because their nice to eat; if you eat healthy, you can now take a selfie.

This week we had a college expo and even though I'm not going to college next year we had to go to see what we had to look forward to in two years time. There was things like business studies where you learnt how to spend money wisely, sewing where you learn to make things from jerseys to pyjamas and lots of other things.

Term 3, Week one

This week was the first week back at school, and to be honest I'm glad to be back at school and be with my friends. Now that I'm back at school I'm only two signatures of my bronze badge and I really hope that I will get it by week three. This week in music we learnt to play some of the song "I'm yours" which sounds really cool with base guitar and ukulele. In class we have started on area and perimeter and although I have a lot to learn I' think that I' doing pretty well and know most of it and just made a dumb mistake. I have learnt how to find the perimeter of a H shape. You have to first find what the sides measure up to and if it has  -, or = it means that its the same then if you have a line without a number, or -/= then you have to add up the top or the bottom( no horizontal lines included) and then add up the bottom ones and then what ever the missing number is you fill that in in the gap. Tis first week back at school has been fun and full of learning.

Week 9, second to last week of term

This week we started music in tech and we learnt a song or two on the ukulele. We got to try out the keyboard and learnt how to properly use it as well as play a few pieces on it. next Tuesday we get to start with drums because drum are the only thing we haven't done yet. Music is very fun ad I am enjoying it very much.

Also this week we had the Belmont exchange. We had about 40 students from Belmont come down to Te Awamutu, and we sent about 40 students up to Belmont in Auckland. This is an annual thing that happens every year and this was the 23rd year of the Belmont exchange. There was a wide range of sports everything from chess to table tennis to football and rugby. We were meant to go and watch the sports being played on Thursday but unfortunately due to the rain we could not go and watch any of the sports including the sports that were being played inside. The Belmont students arrived on Wednesday and we had a porwhiti for them, but unfortunately I did not attend as I was a home sick.   This week has been amazing.

Week 8

This week we had to finish our science fair boards for next week Monday because we have science fair. One of the teachers from the collage are coming in to judge us on Tuesday and then on Wednesday it is open to the public. we also did a peer-assessment on the things that are now on our science fair boards.

On Friday we had our last lesson of tech arts with Mrs Tyson, so on Monday we get to start music. In music (this is what my friends tell me) we get to do guitar, keyboard, and ukulele. I'm also hoping that in music we will get to do dance as well.

Week 7

This week in tech we built, tested and still yet to time our balloon racers. for a team or one person making a balloon racer you get half a piece of giant card, one roll of masking tape, a pair of scissors, one balloon, two straws, and two kebab sticks to make our balloon racer with. Mrs Tyson said the simpler the better, and that it is more likely to go further with an even amount of mass on each side.

In French this week we started to learn how to ask/say how old we are, count from 11-20, and we did some French maths. here is how to say numbers from zero to twenty: zero: zero (spelt same, sound similar), one: un, two: deux, three: trois, four: quatre, five: cinq, six: six (sounds like: ses), seven: sept (sounds like: set), eight: huit, nine: neuf (sounds like: nerf), ten: dix ( sounds like: des), 11: onze, 12: douze, 13: terize, 14: quatorze (sounds like: cartors), 15: quinze ( sounds like: canz), 16: seize (sounds like: sayz), 17: dix-sept (sounds like: des-set), 18: dix-huit, 19: dix-neuf, 20: vingt (sounds like: vinget)

Week 6

This week in tec we finished our marble rolls and timed them. The people who won got a time of 19.8 seconds which was the closest to 20 seconds out of everyone. My marble run only went for 10.7 seconds which wasn't very close at all. On Friday for tec we had to do fill in the sentence and draw a diagram in our book. After that we got to learn about mass (the weight of something) and how a object with a larger mass should go further because it would take more mass than a smaller object to stop.

This week we finally had our inter house winter games. I was put into ball tag and we had to do lots of running. my house won one game, lost two games, and got one sportsmanship point.

Week 5

This week is only a four day week because on Friday it is teacher only day, so that means students don't come to school. This week in tech we have almost finished our marble roll. Currently it rolls for 12-14seconds. Next wee4k we are going to finish it and test it and then have Mrs Tyson time it to see if we can get exactly 20 seconds.

In French we learnt who to have a conversation in French about saying hello saying who we are, asking who other people are, asking how to spell our name and asking how to spell other peoples names, and ask how someone is and replying to someone who is asking us how we feel. The conversation goes like this: Sophie: "Bonjour mademoiselle je m' appelle Sophie. Et toi, tu t'appeles comment?", Anne: "Salut Sophie. Je m' appelle Anne.", Sophie: "Comment ca s' ecrit Anne?", Anne: "Ca s' ecrit A.N.N.E. Et toi, comment ca s' ecrit Sophie?", Sophie: "Ca s' ecrit S.O.P.H.I.E. Ca va, Anne?", Anne: "Oui, ca va. Et toi, a va?", Sophie: "Ca va bien. Au revoir Anne.", Anne: "Au revoir Sophie.". In that conversation you say hello to someone, introduce your self, ask them what their name is, ask them how their name is spelt, spell your name, ask them how they are feeling, say how you are feeling, and say good bye.

Week 4

This week has been a pretty basic week. In science, we made balloon crafts that had to travel from one side of the room to the other. The first time we got it across the room, the second time we modified it and it didn't travel as far. Then we got to do it in the tech foyer and ours nearly made it all the way, but was about 20-25cm off hitting the wall. Then on Friday we started our marble tracks for a challenge that we have to complete by week 5 Friday. So we split into pairs and started working on them. I'm working with Caitlyn Blakely, and we are making a very high rectangle one and it's going to have a sort of staircase on it. The challenge is we have to build a free standing marble structure that can keep the marble in motion for exactly 20 seconds.

On Wednesday we had french and we learnt to ask how someone was feeling by saying this: Comment ca va? In English, that is how are you feeling? We also learnt some of the replies: Bof, bien, tres bien, mal, malade, comme ci comme ca, tres mal, oui ca va. In English, these mean, ok, good, very good, bad, sad, normal, very bad, yes good.

Week 3

This week has been a very busy week. We started our new tec arts on Tuesday and we got to learn P.O.E.W. ( predict, observe, explain, what if ) and used it to investigate what would happen if two different people were to touch a U.F.O. ball? At first Mrs Tyson touched it herself and it lit up, then Mrs Tyson had some one else touch it with her and it didn't light up. Most people thought it would light up like the first time, but as we observed we learned it didn't. Next we tried to explain it, one person thought that when Mrs Tyson pressed the two metal parts connected a wire which finished the circuit which made it light up. Another person thought almost the same thing or some thing very similar and then someone thought that the person was part of the circuit and if two people touched then it would work, and they were correct. And on Friday we got to burn tea bags ( not with the tea in them ) and watched them float in the air.

From Wednesday to Thursday I had music camp. During music camp we practiced for a concert on Thursday evening from 7:00-8:30. At Music camp we had junior band, senior band, drumline, and choir. I was in choir for the music camp and stayed there until 7:30 on Wednesday and on Thursday I went home like normal. We were joined by Matamata intermediate and Cambridge middle school for the Wednesday and the Thursday until 9:00pm when they departed for home. Over the two days at music camp I learnt a lot of new songs. I learnt: River of dreams, That's what friends are for, Some nights, I can see clearly, and some others that I can't remember. We worked extremely hard on those two days and on the Thursday we got to do an amazing concert for everyone, which was quite fun. Music camp was really fun.

This week, although it been a busy week, has been amazing.

week 2

This week we finished wood in tec arts and some people finished their trucks. There was a fair bit to get done like attach wheels, sand the truck, attach the air filters, and put raw linseed oil on it. For me the hardest part was sanding it because I put the air filters on before I sanded it, so I had to sand it by hand.

On Monday we had someone come out and do lacrosse with us out on Sherwin park. Considering it was everyone's first time playing lacrosse we did pretty well playing it' and doing some of the tricks that he showed us. The hardest part for me was the throwing and sometimes the catching was pretty hard as well. The people who did really well at it got at least two trick but some of them were quite hard. There was one where you had to go under your leg throw it up in the air and then catch it. the other two are, 1.where put it behind your back throw it up and then catch it, and I can't remember the other one. Then we had a game before lunch and then it was over. Overall I think we all really enjoyed lacrosse.

This week for science fair we are coming up with our questions and doing some research so we can come up with a hypothesis.

Term 2, Week1

Welcome back to my blog for term 2.
This week we have talked about science fair. We talked about the principals of fair testing, and variables. For fair testing you need to be able to do the experiment at least three times. For variables you need to think of all the things you've got to keep the same. For example say you were doing one on what does the effect of sunlight have on a plants growth? You would have to get the same plant, the same soil and the same amount of soil as well, the same amount of water, watered at the same time, and so on. So for variable you can see there's lots to think about, and that's for every project. In every experiment fair testing and variables are both important.

In tec arts this week I've gotten most of the bottom of my truck done. I had the middle of my wheels cut out to the correct size, so I could fit them on to the dowels that are stuck to the bottom of my truck. I had to mark out the places where holes had to be drilled out to put the dowel in. For this I had to mark 22 millimeters from the top, and for the back they had to be 55 millimeters apart. For the front 22 millimeters from the top, and placed in the middle.

On Tuesday we had a man named Mike King come in and talk to us about depression. He said that the number one sign of depression in men is anger. He talked about how he coped with depression with alcohol, drugs, and the most helpful thing counselling. In the end he was really funny and I think he left with a great impression on the entire school.

Last week of term/ week 11

I'm back from camp and I must say it was amazing. We had a water slide and I went down it really fast twice! There was also air rifling, go carting, BMX track, and the most dangerous, the trollies. My favourite was the go carts I have ones like them at my mums house, but these ones went even faster than the ones at my place. We also got to do team building exercises and one of them was really hard. You had to get your whole team across to the middle and then to the other side. At first we kept trying  the same thing, but then we found out that it wasn't working. So we set up an other one and tried making shoes out of the eight bits of wood we had. Some people got carried across, but most of us wanted to do it ourselves. Then we played predator and prey. The people with green ropes had to run away from everyone, blue could tag yellow and green, and yellow could tag green. Then there was the five fastest runners and they could tag any one! On the last night of camp most of the kids that came on camp wanted to stay another night but sadly we couldn't.
And that's the end of the term. You will have another blog up date next term.
See you!

Week 10

This week in Tec arts I finally learnt how to use the drill that makes the wheels, and now I have learnt how to put the sides onto the bottom. To do this you measure the bottom up and then you, or the teacher cuts it up. Then you get the glue and line up the side to the bottom and stick it on. Now the glue can't hold the truck together by itself so we put nails in just to make sure that it's secure. This week we started geometry and what I thought I knew it turns out I didn't. So far I have learnt to draw a triangle using a compass and a ruler. I have learnt to bisect an angle which I think is pretty fun. Again I'm in the lower maths group, but I just need a bit more help than others.

Next week I will be on camp so there will either be a blog post on Tuesday, or the Friday I get back from camp.

Week8&9

Week8:
This week was only four days and we only got one session of tec arts (we finished the week one Thursday). We started our reading questions that we have to complete before we go on camp. This week in tec arts we sanded and cut out parts for our trucks and also made some wheels. We also started a piece of writing that is due the first week back term two.

Week9:
This week in tec I got most of the things done that I needed to get done. I got the template cut out, the windows cut out, I made the grill for my truck, sanded the truck I'm making, and I'm still trying to get my wheels cut out. Also this week we had inter house summer games. I got into doge ball, but there was also non-stop cricket, out door bowls and lots of others.

Week7

This week I had a geometry test and remembered most of my geometry. Also this week I learnt how to cut out the front template of a wooden truck, sand and file it, and also make wheels for it. Although I didn't get all of it done I got a fare amount done. This week the makuhari  students left on Thursday morning. Also we had a revision test on number.

Week 7 review

This week I learnt about BEDMAS and how it is used. BEDMAS is brackets, index NO.s, division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction. I used that knowledge to do a puzzle which ended up being a butterfly. Also this week I learnt about topic sentences which most of the time is at the start of the sentence least commonly is in the middle of the sentence and sometimes at the end. Topic sentences are what tells you what the paragraph is about.

Sunday, March 13, 2016

Week 6

This week I learnt how to correctly use F.A.N.B.O.Y.S and U.W.B.U.S words. Also this week we did a boating and water safety course. We learnt how to safely pull someone in with an emergency rope. We also learnt how to get people onto the boat safely when in was right side up and upside down. We also learnt how to stay together if we all fell out of the boat and the boat had sunk. We learnt how to use flares, emergency beacons and horns. This week was great fun.

Sunday, March 6, 2016

Week 5

This week I learnt that Hone Heke (the first chief to sign the treaty) chopped down the flag pole three times because he was angry with the British because they kept taking his land, and the same thing happened everywhere else. This week has been a blast.

Saturday, February 27, 2016

Week 4

This week has been a blast. we went to the museum and learnt more about the Treaty of Waitangi and we had to dress up in costumes and be characters in sort of like a play. Also this week I managed to finish my hand painted cushion and let me say it looks amazing. I can't wait for week five because Henry William ( not the real Henry William ) is coming to tell us even more about the Treaty of Waitangi. this week was awesome I can't wait for Monday!

My Dream board explanation and my weekly blog post

My Dream Board Explanation

My Dream Board is a colage of the things that I hope to have in the future and there are a few things that I could not fit on there that I would still like to have like children of my own a family and many other things. You may notice that I have lots of pictures of houses on there that’s because when I have a family of my own I would like to have a nice big for them to play in. I would also like to have a huge swimming pool so that I can have fun with all my friends.

Another thing that I couldn't fit on there is University. One day I hope to go back to my home town Gore and go to University down there. There I will learn how to make lots of amazing dresses and then after I finish University I will move to Sydney where I will start my career as a dressmaker.

Two of the main things I want to do when I'm older is a dressmaker or a horseback rider but it is unlikely that I will be a horse rider because I can’t get after school lessons and my Mum says I’m not allowed a horse on the farm. But when I'm older I might take part time lessons.

There are also a few quotes on there and I want those to be my motto's for my entire life. Although I may not live by them my entire life, but I would like to try and live by them most of my life. They are also quotes that connect me to my past, present, and future. There are also words on there that mean the same thing to me as the quotes.

I have put a lot of hard work and effort into this so I hope you enjoy it.

  Sophie Gray

This is the explanation for my dream board that i finished this week. We also started our Treaty of Waitangi research so that we can write a report about it. Next week we go to the museum to learn more about the Treaty so we can make our report long and informative. I will put up another post next week. see you until then my friends.

Welcome to my blog

Welcome to my blog. I'm a Year 7 at Te Awamutu Intermediate.
